THE NEW GLOBAL THREAT OF THE WORLD: CLIMATE CHANGE

Our planet, which started more than a hundred years ago; is experiencing an extremely important and rapid climate change. Climate change is one of the most important and serious problems facing the world today. If we make a simple definition of climate change; We can say that it is the increase in the earth's temperature (global warming) as a result of the release of more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere than the naturally occurring. Earth's climate; The amount of energy from the sun is affected by many factors such as greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Experts said "it is technically more correct" to use the term "global warming" instead of "global heating" in the speech at the UN climate change summit last December. Because the first statement states that the world is "warming" spontaneously, and the second states that people's actions are behind this situation.

Today, one of the biggest problems is the climatic conditions that people are not used to. Climate change poses one of the biggest environmental, social and economic threats. By scientists; Climate change is defined as "long-term and slowly developing changes in climate conditions with large-scale and significant local effects, regardless of the cause".  Our world has gradually warmed and cooled more and more over the centuries. This change took place over hundreds of thousands of years. There have been 10 ice ages on our planet in 1 million years and the earth has warmed many times. However, these changes were the result of natural causes such as changes in the tilt of our planet, sun's activity, and ocean currents.

With the industrial revolution that took place in 1758, the world was disorganized. The warming that took place in hundreds of thousands of years began to occur in as little as 50-100 years. With the industrial revolution, our future began to be in danger. And this danger is growing rapidly every day. Our planet is warming up fast. Human activities are causing this change and we are beginning to see the consequences of this all over the world. The more we affect the climate, the greater the risk of dangerous changes; The more difficult and expensive it is to limit future changes and adapt to unavoidable influences. If we do not take urgent action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the world's average surface temperature could rise 4 ° C or more above pre-industrial levels before the end of this century. Scientists say our planet is warming faster due to the intense greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. Most of us have seen and even experienced the effects of climate change. However, these impacts are not limited to floods, droughts and hurricanes. Slower and less noticeable climate changes can completely change our lifestyle.

The first legally binding global agreement to combat climate change was signed with the participation of 195 countries in Paris in December 2015. The EU, other governments, companies and individuals around the world are working to both combat the causes of climate change and adapt to the changes it brings. Since climate change is a global problem that can affect all of us, we all have a role in this regard. We all share the same planet. As Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said, "We cannot know that an event that we think the furthest away will not touch us one day." For this reason, we should not close our eyes to the climate change disasters seen in the world. Together, we must find solutions and shape our behavior according to the new order.
