ELECTIONS IN GREECE

The Future Relations Between Turkey and Greece
The new Prime minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis(New Democracy party) took office on the 8th of July, 2019. His predecessor, Alexis Tsipras(Syriza party) was a firebrand leftist but he is the opposite. Mitsotakis came into charge as a new prime minister on 10th of July. Greece and Turkey have been at war with each other many times in the 20th century and may be at the brink of war. It almost led to a military conflict over the Turkish islet Imia in 1996 but the United States stepped in to avert the disaster.

As Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke to his cheering supporters after victory, he paused for a moment of reflection.

"I feel the spirit of my parents protecting me," he said. For Greece's new slick prime minister-elect, talk of his family is not just a personal issue. He is a scion of one of the country's most powerful political dynasties: his father, Konstantinos, was prime minister, his sister is a former foreign minister and his nephew is the new mayor of Athens.
Mr Mitsotakis has promised tax cuts and job creation, with an agenda of privatisation and sound political management.
He'll benefit from New Democracy being part of the largest bloc in the European Parliament, painting his victory as an end to Greece's populist experiment and a return to the political mainstream.
Tsipras actually came up with very anti-European politics. He hopelessly overpromised. People had high expectations and they didn't reach it.
On the other hand, the Turkish President is losing followers based on the recent economic and diplomatic ties. His actions lately have been refuted by his once loyal followers. With cases like the arrested American citizen that eventually led to the devaluation of the Turkish currency and the firing of the Central bank governor, Murat Çetinkaya even with the ongoing recession, his opponents are gaining more grounds.

 Analysis:
In relation to the future of Turkish ties with Greece, it is looking bright seeing the new Greek prime minister is on the right hand side and is ready to make the current state of Greece better. The bilateral relations between Greece and Turkey will grow stronger and be strengthened during Mitsotakis’ leadership seeing that Turkey congratulated him on his win. Both countries currently have economic problems and the new Greek prime minister is focused on improving relations with neighboring countries to improve the economic state of the country.
